Probably, by now, the vast majority of the United States and quite possibly the world have heard about green tea and the health benefits that many tests indicate it has on the body. But there are still those that want to know what green tea is and where did it originate and what are the health benefits tests indicate that it has on the body.

Green tea is made entirely with leaves from Camellia sinensis and originates from China but is now grown throughout many different countries including Japan, Australia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Kenya, Korea, India, and Indonesia. And interestingly is the range of the taste of the tea that depends upon the region that it is grown.

There are many benefits that are being associated with the drinking of green tea. There have many numerous trials and tests to see what kind of affect that it has on the human body. Probably what interests a significant percentage of the population is that it seems to be a deterrent against cancer. One of the benefits that green tea possesses is that it is rich in catechin polyphenols such as epigallocatechin gallate or in simpler terms (EGCG), which is a very powerful anti-oxidant that resists cancer cell growth and kills cancer cells without destroying healthy tissue. That alone is extraordinary, but green tea also aids in lowering LDL cholesterol and helps prevent blood clots. Also tests seem to indicate that it assists in lowering blood pressure and preventing heart disuse.

With all of the health benefits, it is easy to ascertain why there is such a buzz about green tea these days.
