Piano: I Can’t Stretch An Octave, Can I Learn Piano To An Advanced Level?
I used to have to same problem. Most pieces jump from the top note to the bottom. What you have to try to do is a kind of half roll movement. Don't worry about this too much, because your hand will gradually adjust and you'll be able to reach that octave soon. For now, just try to "jump".
I have very small hands, and can barely reach an octave, but I am an advanced player.
However I do have some limitations and would physically have a hard time playing some of the heavy romantic music.
But even with that limitation, I have made my living as a professional pianist for quite a few years now!
Haven’t you ever seen those kids on tv- little musical genius’s that have child’s hands, they seem to have no problem. Eventually your hand will stretch that far, just takes some time. Be patient- you’ll get there! Keep playing!
When I first began piano, I had the same problem. As you keep practicing, you can eventually reach…. After 11 years, I can now reach almost 2 above an octave!
try using the pedal to soften out the break in your stretch
dont give up piano because of this it will get better i promise
