When we’re thinking about a game of pool, we probably imagine a spacious room with dim lights, glasses of whisky beside the pool table, cigars and the low-pitched sound of striking balls. No referral to saving the nature, taking care of the environment, yes? Correct. But even here, when you take a look into it, you find that even in this non nature related sphere something was done in order to preserve our beautiful world. Do you know what that was? It would be hard to guess, so here’s a hint: balls. Yes, the pool table balls were a very harmful thing to... Elephants. And that’s because they were made from elephant tusk. Gladly, that was changed, pool table balls are now made from various materials, such as plastic, fiber-glass, India rubber. Their weight stayed the same – around 160 grams. They now are even more resistant to strikes, and the elephants should be really happy about it, because one of the reasons why they were so prosecuted by poachers was eliminated. So now, because of someone smart enough to find solutions in every problem, pool fans have even more durable pool table balls, and the nature does not have to suffer such a loss just to satisfy our additional needs. Seeing such interesting changes which wouldn’t even come to a simple mind makes the perspective view of our planet and our lives here much brighter. Let’s just hope these bright ideas don’t stop spreading.
